Friends of Hemming Park Celebrates Public Art Week with Collaborative Activities for All

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 31, 2018 – Friends of Hemming Park is proud to host the following programs and events in Hemming Park located at 135 W. Monroe Street in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville. All activities listed below are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Monday – Friday: Food Trucks at Charlie’s Café, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Monday – Sunday: Hemming Park Kids Zone, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.



Public Art Week (PAW) is an annual, week-long initiative that celebrates Jacksonville’s public art and highlights the benefits that are created when investments are made in art that is accessible by all.  It is led by the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville to encourage residents and visitors to explore and engage with the works of art that comprise Jacksonville’s rapidly developing artistic and creative landscape.  In addition to advancing the community’s awareness of and engagement with the City of Jacksonville’s official public art collection, PAW also showcases public art initiatives led by private entities and individuals.    

Roux Art in the Park

Monday, April 2nd through Friday, April 6th, 11:30 am to 1 pm

Bring the family downtown to Hemming Park to participate in a public art mosaic project with RouxArt.  RouxArt is Kate Garcia Rouh, a life-long artist and art educator in Duval County, and her husband Kenny Rouh.  Their work can be found throughout Jacksonville and includes their iconic piece “Mirrored River: Where Do You See Yourself?,”  located along the South Bank of the River Walk and in the City of Jacksonville’s official public art collection.   During Public Art Week 2018, RouxArt’s focus will be transforming planters located in Charlie’s Cafe. The community is encouraged to participate in the creative process, with no prior experience required. This project is possible thanks to funding by JWB Real Estate Capital.

Meet the Artist: Cecelia Lueza

Monday, April 2nd through Friday, April 6th

Meet Miami-based artist Cecelia Lueza and watch her complete murals at the Hemming Park Skyway Station. This project funded by Jacksonville Transit Authority (JTA).

Art Walk and Public Art Tour

Wednesday April 4th, 5 pm to 9 pm

Visit Hemming Park during ArtWalk for our free monthly dance party near the main stage at Hogan Street with DJ Monsta and performances by local artists.

Food trucks, locally brewed beer and vendors will be available. A tour of downtown public art, hosted by the Cultural Council’s Art in Public Places Committee, begins at 6:30 pm.

Lantern Workshop with MOCA

Thursday April 5th, 5 pm to 7 pm

Friends of Hemming Park and MOCA present a Happy Hour Lantern Workshop in Hemming Park. Tickets are available at https://904tix.com/events/lantern-making-moca

Party in the Park: A Celebration and Dedication of Public Art

Friday April 6th, 5 pm to 8 pm

Join Friends of Hemming Park, The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, JEA, Regions Bank and JWB Real Estate Capital for a “Party in the Park” featuring food, drinks, live music, artists, and the dedication of new works of public art including Skyway murals by Cecelia Lueza and mosaics by RouxArt. Cheap Suit & The Space Heaters perform from 5 pm to 8 pm. This is a FREE event with food and beverages available for purchase.

Friday April 6th, 6 pm to 8 pm

Skip the gym and join Jump4Jax for an open rope jump session Friday, April 6th from 6 pm to 8 pm in Hemming Park. Jumpers of every skill level are invited to jump. Ropes and instruction will be provided at this FREE event!

EVERY SINGLE ARTIST LOUNGE, Tuesday April 10th, 5 pm  – 8 pm

Join the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville and co-hosting artists Mal Jones and Kandice Clark for this monthly networking event for artists, arts professionals, arts educators, and art appreciators. Every Single Artist Lounge convenes on the second Tuesday of every month. This informal meet-up is intended to spark a dialog between artists of all disciplines, gallery owners, curators, art educators and professionals, and the general public.


TGIF Music Series, 11:30 a.m.  – 2 p.m.

Hemming Park is a great place to enjoy lunch throughout the work week, with food trucks and music every day. On Fridays we feature performances by some of Jacksonville’s favorite local bands. Bring a bag lunch, grab a bite from one of our food trucks or your favorite downtown restaurant and enjoy a free concert to get your weekend started. Here’s the full lineup for April:
