Hemming Park is an event destination!

“There’s nothing to do in Jacksonville.” I hear this more often than I should because there’s so much happening in this city. For instance, if you’ve not heard, there’s a new spot for events in Downtown Jacksonville: Hemming Park!

Friends of Hemming Park (FOHP) is tasked with transforming the park into a downtown destination. Yesterday, we made our first big announcement, the opening of Charlie’s Café. The Cafe offers lunch with live music Monday-Friday 11 a.m. –  2 p.m.

Lunch options will be rotating out every day and include, but are not be limited to, Super Food Truck, Fusion Food Truck, The Little Family Crepes, Son of A Butcher, Blue Pacific Grill and Taco Bar, The Conch Shell, Baby’s Badass Burgers, and Jalapeno Truck, and so many more.

Charlie’s Café is a demonstration and within the next few months there will be a permanent vendor who offers healthy, to-go lunch options and seating for 60+ patrons.

If you don’t want lunch, but want a pastry or a hand-crafted coffee, visit Vagabond Coffee Co. in the park Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Look for the little white airstream trailer surrounded by bright green cafe tables. It’s a great spot to take a break, chat with your friends or have a business meeting.
Other items on our to-do list are to make the park an event destination. The past few months, FOHP has brainstormed with the community and worked with several organizations to host their event. We’re continuing events like Art Walk, Jaxsons Night Market, One Spark, BYO Lunch and Go Skate Day but we have new events in the pipeline.

You’ll want to keep your ear to the ground for Come Get Married, Fun4FirstCoastKids Picnic in the Park, GastroFest, fitness and yoga classes, concerts, beer festivals, a literary festival and much more.

Whether it’s FOHP producing the event or another organization having an event in the park, it’s time to start thinking of Hemming Park the way it should be, a destination, a place for a simple break from work, a birthday party, or a huge festival.
