Citi and the National Recreation and Park Association
Brings Global Community Day to Hemming Park
With help from NRPA, Friends of Hemming Park and Citi employees will revitalize
Hemming Park in Jacksonville, Florida through a community service day.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 31, 2017 – On Saturday, June 24, Friends of Hemming Park (FOHP) will join forces with Citi for their 12th Global Community Day. This initiative is part of a new partnership between Citi and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) where Citi employees work directly with local park and recreation agencies on a community service project. In Jacksonville, Florida, Citi employees will bring their gardening skills and will work alongside Friends of Hemming Park, the nonprofit group that manages Jacksonville’s first and oldest park.
The kick off will be at 9 a.m. and will go on until 12 p.m. This unique beautification project will make Hemming Park cleaner and greener by planting native plants and palms throughout the park. Harmony Sod Farms has donated 5 pallets of St. Augustine Sod and the City of Jacksonville’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services is providing the equipment for the cleanup crews.
Bill Prescott, CEO for Friends of Hemming Park, says ‘Friends’ is excited to work with Citi on this first-time large-scale beautification project since the organization has been overseeing the park in 2014. Thanks to Citi, National Recreation and Park Association and the City of Jacksonville, we are taking another stride in our organization’s mission to bring vitality to Hemming Park and to make it a clean and safe downtown destination.”
“Volunteer service is one of the many ways Citi shows its commitment to the communities where we have a presence,” said Citi CEO Michael Corbat. “Global Community Day highlights the great work of our community and non-profit partners, and we are excited to join them once again to strengthen our neighborhoods.”
NRPA is proud to partner with Citi and other like‐minded corporations to provide opportunities for companies to give back and reconnect with the communities they serve through local parks and recreation. This year, Citi is partnering with local park and recreation agencies in 11 cities and towns across the country.
