Friends of Hemming Park is a small, nonprofit organization contracted with the City of Jacksonville to revitalize Jacksonville’s oldest public park, Hemming Park, located in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville. (See City Ordinance 2014-434 for details.)
Our mission is to transform the park into a modern, urban space that engages diverse communities and restores vitality to our city’s public square. We plan to accomplish this by bringing in regular amenities and programming, park ambassadors and security, and by creating more utility in the park through community-driven partnerships.
Since beginning in October 2014, we have added two stages, various seating areas including Charlie’s Cafe, a Kids Zone, Reading Room and several public art projects to Hemming Park. The group also coordinates daily community programming including live music and food trucks Monday – Friday, Toddler Tuesdays with activities for kids and free classes for yoga, photography and magic.
Larger events such as Jaxsons Night Market and Downtown Vision’s Art Walk bring thousand of people to the park every month. Other key community events unique to Hemming Park include GastroFest, Bourbon & BBQ and the Hemming Park Beer Festival.
